Missing inmate captured in Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN – Inmate Alcola Wright, who left his work release job Monday morning at a Duplin County poultry processing plant, was captured early Monday evening by Elizabethtown police.

Officers spotted him in downtown Elizabethtown and took him into custody without incident at about 6 p.m. He will face an escape charge.

Wright was serving a minimum sentence of 13 years and 25 days after being convicted as a habitual felon for breaking into vehicles, property cheating and larceny. He was due for release on Aug. 10.

Wright was assigned to New Hanover Correctional Center, a minimum security prison in Wilmington. He was returned to prison after his capture.
