Prisons shifts
management of female facilities
Annie Harvey,
previously warden at N.C. Correctional Institution for Women, has
been named Female Command manager.
Bob Lewis,
director of the Division of Prisons, said the new command will allow
DOP to manage all female facilities from one management structure.
“This concept
will enhance our efforts to be more consistent operationally and
improve our efforts to stay current nationally as it relates to
female issues and best practices on the state and national level,”
Lewis said.
In the 1980s,
DOP operated with a similar structure, which was nationally
recognized as a management model for correctional facilities that
have common missions, policies and services. In 1998, the division
was reorganized into geographic regions.
The Female
Command manager will report to the DOP deputy director, along with
the division’s regional directors.
“Ms. Harvey
enters this important role with vast knowledge and experience in
prison management and female offender issues,” Lewis said. “In
addition, she has considerable experience as a national consultant
for female offender issues and is considered a proactive leader on
the national level in this area.”
