Prison Program Description: Inmate Construction Program
Purpose	Inmate labor is used to erect security fencing and in the construction of prison facilities. In addition, the inmates learn or sharpen various construction skills.
Criteria for Participation	The Inmate Construction Program has two basic components. Minimum custody inmates with basic construction skills and positive adjustment histories are involved in the construction of security fencing. The inmates generally have lengthy sentences and are willing to travel throughout the state. These inmates are selected by the Division of Prisons Inmate Construction Program coordinator. Medium custody inmates with specific skills determined by Department of Correction Central Engineering build prison structures within a secured setting. These inmates are screened for participation in the program by Central Engineering for skill level and by the Inmate Construction Program coordinator and superintendent where the inmates will be housed.
Program Operation	The medium custody projects are major construction jobs at prison facilities around the state. These are long term projects that can last several months or more than a year. The minimum custody fencing projects relocate every four to six months as projects are completed. Inmates are housed at facilities near the assigned projects.
