Prison Program Description: A New Direction/DART Treatment Program
PurposeThe treatment provides inmates with alcohol/ drug problems an opportunity to engage in treatment and recovery.
Criteria for ParticipationInmates must be in Medium or Minimum custody and have a documented history of alcohol/drug related problems. They must have a diagnosed alcohol/drug  problem and received SASSI test score of 3-5. Inmates may also be recommended by the court but must meet the criteria for the program.
Program Operation The A New Direction/DART Treatment Program is delivered to:
  1. Introduction to the treatment process.
  2. Breaking through denial and admission and ownership of problem.
  3. Development of a recovery plan and a self evaluation.
  4. Transition from treatment to recovery and relapse prevention.

 

A New Direction Treatment Programs are currently in operation at 10 facilities:

  • Craggy Correctional Center
  • Duplin Correctional Center
  • Haywood Correctional Center
  • Lumberton Correctional Center
  • Pender Correctional Institution
  • Piedmont Correctional Institution
  • Rutherford Correctional Center
  • Tyrrell prison Work Farm
  • Wayne Correctional Center
  • Western Youth Institution

DART Treatment Programs are in operation at 12 facilities:    
      

  • NC Correctional Institution for Women
  • Swannanoa Correctional Center for Women
