Management Information Systems
INFORMATION SECURITY OFFICE
This section (which consists of a chief information security officer, an information security specialist, and two information security analysts) serves as the department’s focal point for information security which ensures that information security risks are considered in both planned and on going operations. Additionally, the section evaluates and makes recommendations regarding the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of departmental information. These tasks are achieved by performing the following activities
Developing information security policies and procedures
Establishing education and awareness programs
Maintaining the departments business continuity plan as it relates to information technology in accordance with general statute 147-33.89
Researching potential threats, vulnerabilities and control techniques
Assisting with computer related investigations
Initiating discussion on information security risks
Assessing the information technology infrastructure for risks
Establishing the department’s incident response capability
Monitoring security related activities
Recording and tracking information security incidents
Distributing information concerning protective measures to take against current and future security threats
Evaluating the department’s compliance with related state and federal regulations
Functioning as the information security liaison between the department and other state agencies
