Inmate Dies At Avery-Mitchell Correctional Institution

SPRUCE PINE - Robin Stone, a 31-year old inmate, died Sunday morning at Avery-Mitchell Correctional Institution. The exact cause of death is unknown at this time.

Stone’s body has been transported to the chief medical examiner’s office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy. The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the death.

Stone was convicted of common law robbery and larceny in Gaston County in January 2001 and was serving a total of 3 years, 1 month and 3 days in prison for his crimes. He was projected release date was in November 2003.
