Tyrrell prison inmate dies in apparent suicide COLUMBIA – Michael Williams, a 26-year-old inmate serving a sentence for selling drugs, was found unconscious and hanging by a bed sheet in his cell Wednesday morning at Tyrrell Prison Work Farm. The Tyrrell County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the apparent suicide. Williams, who was alone in a segregation cell, was found hanging at about 8:35 a.m. Efforts to revive Williams failed, and he died at 9:45 a.m. at Washington County Hospital. Williams was sentenced in May 2002 to 40-57 months for selling drugs on school property in New Hanover County.
