Agriculture Secretary Jim Graham
presented plaque to Secretary Mack Jarvis in recognition to Henderson Correctional
Center for their assistance in maintaining grounds at the Mountain State
Fair facility. Correction employees from western North Carolina won a blue
ribbon for their fair booth.
Correction employees from western North Carolina prisons and probation offices and IMPACT West put the fair booth together. They also answered questions, displayed materials and handed out information about the department. The 1997 fair expanded to 10 days and expected 100,000 visitors. DOC bloodhounds enjoyed being petted and scratched behind the ear. |

Prison and Probation officers handed out
junior officer badges and coloring books to children and answered questions
and provided literature for adults.
The state fair booth was in the busy Kerr Scott building. Despite several rainy days, more than 600,000 people visited the state fair. |

in the education building at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds, the state's
second largest fall fair.
Probation officers and IMPACT boot camp officers from Morganton also talked about their jobs and state correction programs. |
