GENERAL INFORMATION - NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION

ORGANIZATION: The Department of Correction is composed of two main operating divisions, the Division of Prisons and the Division of Adult Probation and Parole. Support sections include Human Resource Management, which is responsible for personnel matters and training; Central Engineering, which provides design and maintenance support for the Department's prison facilities, and Correction Enterprise, which employs inmates to generate income by supplying products and services to other state government units. The Parole Commission, consisting of five Governor appointees, selects inmates to be released by parole.
