2. Population by Crime Type

On December 31, 1995, the probation population totaled 100,381 and consisted of the following Crime Types:

Violent crimes accounted for 13,761 (14%) of the population.

– the highest population in this crime type was Assault which totaled 9,469 and accounted for 69% in total violent crimes.

Property crimes accounted 34,941 (35%) of the year-end population.

– the highest population in this crime type was Larceny with a total of 12,427 and accounted for 36% in total property crimes.

Public Order crimes, including non-trafficking drug crimes and driving while impaired, accounted for a total of 51,088 (51%) of the population.

– the most common crime in this crime type was Driving While Impaired with a total of 19,379 and accounted for 38% in total public order crimes.
