2. Population by Crime Type

On December 31, 1995, the prison population consisted of the following Crime Types:

Violent crimes accounted for 13,831 (47%) a majority of the population.

– the largest population in this crime category was Robbery which totaled 4,270 and accounted for 31% of all violent crimes.

Property crimes accounted a total of 8,201 (28%) of the year end population.

– the largest population in this crime type as Breaking/Entering with a total of 3,524 and accounted for 43% in total property crimes.

Public Order crimes, including non-trafficking drug crimes and driving while impaired, accounted for a total of 7,205 (24%) of the population.

– the largest population in this crime type was Non Trafficking drug crimes with a total of 3,541 and accounted for 49% of public order crimes.
