Spotlight on Hyde Correctional Institution - page 2

Rhonda Newman, David Chester's assistant, puts together a scrapbook on the prison. She serves as the site security administrator and is the fixer of all PCs. Personnel Assistant Sharon Spencer (R) and Office Assistant Cindy Mason (L) are both Hyde County natives. Spencer, who worked 27 years for the Division of Forestry Resources, said employees at Hyde all help each other and have a good working relationship. She credits Supt. Chester for letting the staff grow on their own. Sadie Credle (L) worked 28 years in Washington, D.C. for the FBI before returning to her native Hyde County. David Chester said she and Carol Carawan (R) do a bang-up job in the records section. Carawan's claim to fame is her father, Jimmy Wakely, one of the singing cowboys in the 1940s. Cowboy singer Gene Autrey hired Wakely to be in his trio for his radio show. He was also a guest on the Bob Hope and Milton Berle shows.
