Personnel Director Jeff Becker said that Gloria Norris, a 28-year DOC employee, keeps him out of trouble and that she is a genius. She is the operations manager, directly supervising four people who ensure that employment policies and procedures are being adhered to. Darlene Yost is a staff development technician working with violence in the workplace issues, merit-based hiring and employment interviewing. Barry Rosch is a classification specialist with special emphasis on compensation. Off the job, he spent five years writing Lutwaffe Codes, Markings and Units 1939-1945. His book, published five years ago, reveals how the German Air Force designated codes and classified units during World War II. Rosch is also an expert sailor, living three years abroad sailing a yacht in the Caribbean. Seventy-year-old Officer Hennigan Kearns has worked at Southern CI ever since it opened in 1983. He worked first shift for 12 years, and when he came to third, he liked it better. "I enjoy what I do," Kearns said. "I feel like some of the inmates need me, and I'm ready to listen."
