CORRECTIONAL CHAPLAINCY
Qualifications


Clinical Chaplains I, II & III (Full-time state paid)
  • Graduate of an accredited 4 year college or university
  • Graduate from an (ATS) accredited school of theology or divinity with minimum of masters of divinity
  • Ordained or community faith supported
  • In good standing with faith group
  • CPE: Minimum of one year (4 units) or the equivalency for Chaplain I
  • Additional training for Chaplains II & III is required
Chaplains Chaplain visits inmate in cell Chaplain talks with inmates
In addition to the above, the following applies:
Chaplain Trainee I (Contract only - Limited)
  • Graduate of an accredited 4 year college or university, enrolled in an (ATS) accredited seminary/ school of theology, actively involved in faith group activities or ministries, and in good standing with the faith group
Clinical Chaplain I  (Contract only)
  • Same as state-paid Clinical Chaplain I
Community Funded / Volunteer Chaplain
  • Many correctional units with smaller inmate populations depend on volunteer chaplains or community funded chaplains. These chaplains serve either part-time or full-time. It is preferred that these chaplains have the same qualifications as Clinical Chaplain I.
