Spotlight on DART- Wayne - page 1
Steve Mitchel is the director of the DART program
at Wayne Correctional Center. After serving in Vietnam, Mitchel became a probation officer
in Omaha, Nebraska, specializing in chemical dependency. "Treatment centers and prisons exist because of problems," Mitchel said. "This job gives me a real chance to intervene." Mitchel, who has worked at Wayne Correctional Center since 1989, reports directly to Tom Ivester who is in the Raleigh DART office. Mitchel does a lot of administrative work, "but Im a counselor at heart," he said. "When you take the chemicals out of an addicted person, you have a pretty decent human being." |
