Spotlight on DART-Wayne - page 4

dejesus.jpg (5411 bytes) A native of the Bronx and fluent in Spanish, Eddie De Jesus, worked in a chemical dependency rehab program in Utica, N.Y. before moving to Goldsboro in March. He got an associate’s degree in substance abuse counseling from Mohawk Valley Community College. A friend whom he helped become drug free was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and suggested De Jesus move to the area. "I really like North Carolina and working in the DART program," De Jesus said. "This job has nothing to do with money. It has to do with me making a contribution because it hurts to see people suffering."
marczyk.jpg (6140 bytes) After 20 years in the military where he worked in the chemical dependency field, Frank Marczyk, with his wife and children, returned to North Carolina in 1992. Marczyk fields phone calls from concerned parents, and encourages them to come to family orientation day so that they can get support for themselves as well as getting a better understanding of the DART program, in order to help support their loved one.

"Creating a trusting environment in prison is a challenging process," Marczyk said. "We hold clients to a high standard in which respect and trust are important. We hold them accountable for their behavior and expect them to do well."
