Employees in the personnel section thing their director, Jeff Becker, does a good job supporting them and their interests. He has worked 24 years in state government, coming to DOC in 1982 and becoming assistant director in 1987, and director in 1990. In his spare time he enjoys deep sea fishing and golfing. Beth Pope develops training handbooks, visuals, and power point presentations for personnel. She has worked at DOC for six years. Outside work, she takes her two rottweilers, Kyla and Dillan, with her everywhere. The 105-lb. Kyla is so gentle, she does volunteer work at Dorthea Dix Hospital. After graduation, Elaine Barnes spent 12 years working for her alma mater, N.C. State University, in their personnel department. She had heard how wonderful it was to work for the DOC's personnel department because of the people and the challenges, and she says her two years with DOC have indeed been wonderful.
